Our Fundraisers

Each Month we shine the spotlight on one of our Wonderful Life Team. This month we introduce you to our young Fundraiser Nyla.

She may only be eight but Nyla Duthoit is a little girl with a big heart.. and a budding designer to boot!

Nyla’s is the daughter of  Matt, one of our Well-Being Coaches. Nyla always says she would love to be an artist when she grows up. She has always been interested in craft and making things and adding her personal touch to things, especially  fashion. During lockdown Nyla learned a new skill, tie-dye. The unique tie-dye ‘hoodies’ she made were so popular with friends and family that when other people saw them they started putting in requests.

So a little production line has been set up at Nyla’s home in Burnley, with the help of mum Elizabeth who sources the tops for Nyla to create her magic. The hoodies are now being sold to raise cash for our charity, Wonderful Life Academy.

When Matt first started coaching he did a little exercise with the family and Nyla loved it. A few weeks passed and one day Nyla noticed her daddy was feeling sad so she used the Wonderful Life Academy positive thinking to give him some things to think about which instantly lifted him and that’s what prompted her to ask what she could do to help the charity.

Nyla’s Mum said “We are so proud of Nyla and how she wants to help people just like her daddy does.”

Nyla has lots of friends and loves to dance but is also very competitive and loves sport. Her Daddy, Nanna and Grandaddy introduced her to sport especially cheering at football.

Nyla says ” I always like to make people smile and my best job is being a big sister to my brother Hugo and our doggies Alfie and Rose'”

The hoodies are being sold on Matt’s facebook page, Matt’s Wonderful Life Academy, and so far Nyla has made around 30 for children and adults who can’t get enough of them.

"Phoebe loves her new hoody 😍 thanks Nyla xxxx"

Three Big Announcements.

Registered Charity Status

We are delighted to confirm that after a lot of hard work and determination from all of the team and the Trustees we have achieved Registered Charity status. Our Registered Charity number is 1190534. This status provides us with a whole range of new opportunities in terms of funding and credibility.

Registered Charity status has allowed us to become a recognised charity across Facebook, PayPal and Just giving too which means even more of the money we raise goes directly to providing FREE Well-Being Coaching to Frontline and Key workers.

Along with our registered charity status we are now recognised by HMRC and therefore able to claim Gift-Aid on all relevant donations.

Our First Fundraising Event- The Don’t Run Before You Can Walk Marathon !!

Could you or your team walk 26 miles to support Frontline and Key workers?

We are looking for individuals or teams to walk a Marathon to raise funds for the Charity and support NHS and Frontline workers. You can do the whole 26.2 miles yourself or walk as part of a group and do a little bit each.

Our Founder Neil Gowing will be walking the full Marathon distance himself. Can you match him or maybe even beat his time?

You can complete your walk in your own town or neighbourhood, at your own pace and at what ever time of the day you choose. It’s your Marathon walk to do your way! Click the button below to find out more detail or to download a sponsor form.

How to be full of confidence in any Interview.

The Covid-19 Pandemic has impacted people’s lives in many different ways not least in the area of employment. Many people find themselves out of work, maybe for the first time in many years and for some the Pandemic has brought new opportunities that they never dreamed of. In any case for most people the thought of an interview is daunting. Our Wonderful Life INterview Confidence Takeaway will ensure you walk into any Interview feeling confident and able to be the the best you can be.

Overcome Your Fear of Interviews
Knocking knees, butterflies in your stomach, sweaty palms, quavering voice. We’ve all been there – some of us more than others. I’m going to share with you some of the tricks of the
trade to help manage and reduce your anxiety before and during your Interview.

Give these strategies a try and see if they will help you too

• Think about having a conversation?
Use your mental energy to think of your next interview as a conversation. You have conversations all day, every day!  Do you get nervous before a conversation? Most conversations are non-threatening experiences, just a way for two or more people to communicate something.
How is an interview different than that? Try to think of your interview as a conversation, just with different people. See if that eases your mind and nerves.

• Make some new friends in the interview.
Most people are nervous in front of strangers. What would happen if you had a friend in the interview, or a group of friends? Would you feel more comfortable?  Next time you have to sit an interview – do something revolutionary! Introduce yourself, shake hands, smile and greet the interviewers as if you have met them before. That way, when you’re sitting in front of the interviewer, it is no longer a stranger, but a friend, because you met feel like you have met them before.
You’ll feel comfortable when you make eye contact, and it won’t be too hard, because they’ll probably be smiling at you.
Put yourself in your Interviewer’s shoes for a moment. Imagine that you are interviewing a person at work. How would you feel if before the interview, the candidate took a moment to introduce themself to you and smile?  Would you be more receptive to what they had to say? I bet your answer is yes!

• What about smiling?
Smiling has a physiological affect on us – it helps to calm our nerves and make us feel better. It also has the added bonus of making us appear more pleasant, comfortable and happy – definite positive characteristics of a confident candidate.
Often times, the interviewer will mirror the expression of the candidate. So guess what happens when you smile? You got it; your interviewer will be more likely to smile back at you.

• Let’s review.
You’ve just learned some simple, yet effective, techniques to help reduce and manage nervousness while sitting an interview. I challenge you to try them out and see if they work for you.
Remember to:
-Just have a conversation with your interviewer.
-Make some new friends before you begin.
-SMILE! It just might prove infectious and make you feel a whole lot more at ease!
-Learn from every interview you sit and you’ll see that it does get easier and easier
