Our Inspirational People
Each Month we shine the spotlight on one of our Wonderful Coaches inspirational people. This month we introduce you to my Mum, Elsie.
By Neil Gowing
The stories my mum has told me about her childhood and upbringing explain why she grew into the amazingly strong, resourceful and inspirational woman that I have known all of my life. My mum gave every ounce of her energy to bringing up her family of four boys with my dad Ray. As well as raising her family she served for many years as Akela at a cub scout pack and also worked for many years as at one of the local boys clubs. Having worked all of her life, in her late forties, she decided to follow her dream and train as a nurse. As usual she absolutely smashed and soon qualified as a nurse having been the oldest student nurse in England at the time.
She has ploughed the same level of energy and love into her relationshipd with her grandchildren who are all fully aware of just how blessed they are to have such a wonderful Grandma.
“She is a wonderful woman and will do anything for anyone.”
Every body that has ever met my mum has the same impression of her. She is a wonderful woman and will do anything for anyone. She is always visiting someone, taking someone somewhere, helping somebody with a problem or making something for someone. She is known for always having that one thing that you need bit can’t get anywhere.
My mum, Elsie was born in Bury, Lancashire, in 1945 to Edith and Samuel Davis. The post war years were tough for most working class families and Elsie’s family were no exception.
During the current pandemic my mum has been recycling unwanted textiles to make face masks for Family and Friends.
The masks are triple layered and reversible. Make a donation to our charity and we will send you a hand made mask.

Takeaway
Super self Takeaway
This is a simple Takeaway that helps to build confidence and self-esteem, because a wonderful way to increase self-confidence is to write about your achievements.
You will need a pen and paper.
• The Super Self Takeaway will help you to understand what the best version of you looks like and will build your self-esteem and self-worth.
• This exercise gives you tangible evidence of your accomplishments and something to refer to when you experience moments of insecurity during any time in your life.
Here’s how to do your very own Super Self Exercise:
• On a blank sheet of paper list at least TEN things that make you special.
• This could be things you do well, the ways you treat other people, things that make you different to others, things you do at work, at home etc etc.
• List at least twenty personal achievements and successes – These can be big achievements or small achievements, even if it’s learning to tie your own shoes!
• List at least twenty things that you are good at or can do well – Again these can be important things or simple tasks, maybe including cleaning your teeth!
• List ten exceptional qualities or unique things about you. Think about the way you think, the way you act , the way you do things.
• Write down at least one particularly attractive physical feature – even a cute pinkie toe or particularly shapely ear lobe!
• Read this to yourself out loud every morning for a week ! When you do this stand up straight with your shoulders back and speak confidently. Recognise the
emotions you feel as you read through your list. Once you recognize this, it’s amazing how its power diminishes. It tends to lose its hold over you.
