Wonderful Times - Issue 3

Our Coaches

Each Month we shine the spotlight on one of our Wonderful Coaches. This month we introduce you to Matt Duthoit.

Matt joined Wonderful Life academy as a Well-Being Coach in 2019 having first worked with our Founder, Neil Gowing during their time at Wilko.
Based in Lancashire, Matt is currently recruiting members for his local groups and empowering team members in local businesses with our Well-Being in the workplace sessions.
Matt describes himself as “35 years young, a loving husband to Liz and devoted dad to Hugo and Nyla.”
Balancing a demanding full time role in a large supermarket, leading his team and looking after his customers alongside his passion for empowering others through Wonderful Life Workshops requires a huge amount of energy and Matt has that in abundance.
Matt is a positive, can-do type of person who approaches every challenge or opportunity with enthusiasm and a smile.

2019 was a challenging year for Matt during which both of his parents ‘passed to a better place’ but Wonderful Life Academy gave him a new purpose and inspired him to make a difference in the world.
Matt told us that being kind and generous are two of his personal values and being a part of Wonderful Life Academy has inspired him to help as many people as possible and truly give something back.

When he’s not working Matt loves nothing better than spending time with the family or doing DIY projects at home. With such a busy life we don’t know how Matt finds the time or the energy for much else but he does love to both play and watch football and enjoys an occasional round of golf.

Building our Local Groups

Helping as many people as possible to improve their Well-Being and create their own Wonderful Lives is the core principal of Wonderful Life Academy. Our local groups provide the heartbeat of this principal and allow us to reach the maximum number of people from diverse backgrounds with a plethora of life experiences and Well-Being goals.

Building a network of these local groups is our primary focus and our team have been working hard to create the perfect environments where you , our members can make the most of everything Wonderful Life Academy has to offer.

For our new or On-Line only members you may want to know more about how the group sessions really work.

How do the Wonderful Life Well-Being sessions work?

Every session runs for one hour and typically has up to 30 members in attendance.

We always start with a 5 minute ENERGISER tapping into physical, spiritual, emotional and mental energy just to get people in the right state of mind to get the most out of the session.

We then split into two, where the local coach will conduct a welcome huddle with any new members to explain how the groups and the wonderful life academy works.  Whilst the coach is doing this the existing members take the opportunity to share successes from the previous week, share ideas, discuss goals and generally support each other on their journey.

We then do our STORYTELLING SESSION. Here the Group share their stories from last week, celebrate successes and give each other feedback and encouragement.

The second half of the session is all about moving forward and taking action. This part of the session led by the local coach focuses each individual  member on their own personal goals or areas for improvement and empowers members to create a set of actions for the coming week.

We finish the hour with a TAKEAWAY SESSION. Here the Coach takes the whole group through a coaching/NLP exercise or technique from the Wonderful Life Academy resources that they can go away and practice to help support their unique journey.

Become a Well-Being Coach – Empower others to be the best they can be.

We’re  looking for wonderful people to join our growing network of Well-Being Coaches, people like you, who have a positive outlook and who genuinely care about the Well-Being of others.

Sense and Sensitivity – Using our senses to develop mindfulness.

So, everything in the known universe is made up of the same energy. Everything we see, touch, feel, hear and smell is made of the same stuff.  So what?

Imagine if you could begin to harness some of that energy. Imagine if you could feel connected to everything around you. Imagine if you felt the energy of the whole universe behind everything you wanted to do?

At Wonderful Life Academy we often talk about relationships and how important they are in creating your wonderful life. Now imagine how powerful it would be to take all of those relationships to an even higher level simply by understanding exactly what other people are thinking or tuning into what they really mean when they are communicating with you.

Now here’s the brilliant bit; You already have all of the tools you need to achieve all of this.

You are in possession of the most accurate, most sensitive, most finely tuned, most flexible set of tools in the universe. You won’t find them in a toolbox or in the garden shed and you certainly won’t find them down the local DIY store. You are using them right now, right this minute. In fact you use them every minute of every day, even when you are sleeping. Have you got it yet?

Let me give you a clue. You have 5 of them.

Yes, you senses! Vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste.

These five senses are the tools that connect us to everyone and everything around us. Most of the time we use them without even thinking. Sometimes we use them without even realising we are doing it. You are probably only using about 30% of the capability of all of these senses. (if for whatever reason you are unable to use one or more of the five senses then you are probably using nearer to 70% of the ones that you are able to use).

Now here is the even more brilliant bit.

The more you use them the better they get! And if you actually put a little bit of effort into using them you could get close to using 100% of their capability.

When you begin to realise that the things you see, hear, smell, taste and feel are all made of the same energy and that the impact of these on your body and mind are just as potent as the energy you digest through food and drink you may begin to realise the importance and the power of developing your use of these senses.

To put that into some context how often do unkind words you hear have a damaging impact on your health or your emotional well-being? How often do see stories of people traumatised to the point of being unable to function in life due to seeing an horrific event. How many times has a simple smell made you feel physically sick or how about the thought of touching a spider or snake? Does that create some physical reaction in you?

Once you understand that the energy you absorb from all of your senses, the information you digest from what you see, hear, smell and taste creates a physical reaction in your mind and body you can begin to take control and improve your ability to use this in a positive way. Just by making some simple choices you can take a huge step towards creating a wonderful life.

Think about the information you digest from the newspapers or from the television news. Most of it is negative. Most of it is sensational. In many ways this information is quite delicious and it certainly stimulates your senses and creates thoughts and feelings within your mind and body. But as we know, those thoughts and feelings directly drive your behaviour. So if the majority of the information you digest is negative and sensationalise the problems in the world you will begin to behave in a way that represents this.

How many times have you heard about children becoming violent because they spend all of their time playing violent video games? How often do you see friends, neighbours or family members develop extreme views about religion or race because they feed constantly read or watch reports of terrorist atrocities? Obviously there is nothing wrong with keeping yourself informed or with keeping abreast of current affairs and world news but if you understand how this energy impacts your thoughts your feelings and your behaviour you can develop the skill to filter this information in such a way that you remain in control of your reaction to it.

The first steps to taking control is to develop your conscious awareness of your senses and how you use them.

Developing the power of your senses allows you to experience the world around you in High definition. It allows you to notice just how amazing your environment really is and it allows you to notice all of the subtle changes in the people around you enabling you to understand them on a whole new level. The most important principal in developing the use of your senses is to practice using them. Now that might seem a little too simple especially has I have just told you that you already use them every minute of every day, even when you are sleeping.

What I mean is that you have to practice using them properly. Practice using them consciously. Actually use them on purpose.

To begin connecting with the world in High Definition check out the Members downloads in the members area on-line or for the full set of tools and techniques treat yourself to the It’s A Wonderful Life book’ by clicking the button on the members page.
